I am holding onto painting painting. Oil paint is beautiful but very nagging. I don’t think it is because it is the white man’s medium that it drives one mad. I love oil pastels, watercolor, newspaper collages, film photography, contact improvisation and translation.
I have been thinking of Clarice Lispector:
“I’m not a professional. I only write when I want to. I’m an amateur and insist on staying that way. A professional has a personal commitment to writing. Or a commitment to someone else to write. As for me, I insist on not being a professional. To keep my freedom.”
I love Nancy Stark Smith, Latife Tekin, İpek Duben and Nil Yalter.
I was born in Istanbul and currently study fine arts at School of Visual Arts in New York.
